gettin' oily

i have been interested in essential oils for a while.

it started after we had the year of the sickies during the 2013-2014 school year.

we had the stomach flu four times along with other colds and ear infections.

it was a rough one.

i read online about the success people were having using oils to keep their families healthy. i was intrigued.

i researched. read stories. talked to tim about it. read more stories.

i really wanted to give it a try. i just couldn't pull the trigger.

so you can imagine how happily surprised i was when i opened my christmas present from tim and the girls and it was a starter kit of young living essential oils.

i was so happy.

so we have been gettin' oily for the past few months.

and i think they really work!!

i am not a doctor. i also don't use them to treat or cure things.

i use them to try to prevent illness and mainly to give me the peace of mind that i am doing something.

before i started using my oils i did a lot of reading.

i purchased gentle babies by debra raybern. this is pretty much my guide for using oils with my kiddos and myself since i am currently nursing.

i also purchased quick reference guide for using essential oils by connie and alan higley. lots of good information in their as well.

i also follow some oily instagram/facebook accounts that give me ideas.

mainly i diffuse oils. sometimes i apply the oils to skin using a carrier oil (the oil mixed with coconut oil). and occasionally i have applied them neat (just the oil on the skin).

it seems our health has improved since starting to use essential oils. we are moving to a place of prevention. and that feels so good. however we still have picked up some germs here and there. however i feel we have been able to fight things off....it seems our sickies have been less severe and have lasted less time. and i feel like we are doing something. which makes me feel better!

thieves--this is my favorite. it smells so good. we diffuse it to support the immune system. i also apply it to my kiddos feet using a carrier oil.

lemon--diffuse lemon mixed with thieves for a fresh scent. i have applied lemon using a carrier oil to the spine of my kiddos to support the immune system. currently i am diffusing lemon with R.C. and purification. such a fresh and clean scent.

R.C.--diffuse to support the respiratory system. i like to diffuse it with lemon and purification or just by itself. can be applied to the throat to help with snoring.

purification--diffuse to clean the air. sometimes a really stinky diaper gets changed and the smell lingers. purification clears that right up.

joy--diffuse for calming. apply it neat to my wrists and the back of my neck for relaxation. i used this to help with being overwhelmed after jake was born. i feel it helped me relax....and now the scent takes me back to those moments of baby bliss. isn't funny how smells and memories work. i also used it when i went back to school and was stressed about pumping enough milk. i think it help. plus i love the scent.

stress away--diffuse to calm my crazy kiddos down. smells so good.

frankincense--apply neat to my face. frank helps promote healthy skin.

elemi--apply neat to my face. works similar to frankincense to help support healthy skin....about a 1/3 of the cost of frankincense.

citrus fresh--diffuse for a fresh scent. sometimes on it's own and sometimes with theives.

grapefruit--diffuse for a fresh scent. i mix this in with thieves and lemon and citrus fresh.

lavendar-- known as the swiss army knife of oils. it can help with so very much. diffuse to help relax and fall asleep. diffuse with R.C. to support the respiratory system.

melaleauca alternifolia (tea tree oil)--tea tree helps to support healthy skin and hair. i use it daily on my face. we also add it to our shampoo to help support a healthy scalp.

i do like to buy singles and make my own blends. i feel that gets me the most bang for my buck. i am slowly added oils to my collection and trying new things.  a few of the oils i would like add are...

clove
citronella
cedarwood
basil
lime
orange
oregano
thyme
vetiver
digize-
brain power
grounding

with what i have seen so far, i plan to keep on gettin' oily.
