Little Sister's Room Part One: Inspiration

Alrighty folks....the last room of my little making room for little sister series and I am going to be a little dramatic here...this will be a two parter. Part One: Inspiration and Part Two: the Reveal. Hope you can contain yourselves!

Even before we knew Little Sister was in fact Litle Sister I had a vision for what her bedroom would look like. I didn't want to do just another pink bedroom...I wanted to do light blue walls, paint the crib yellow, add bright accents of pinks and reds and aquas. Something like this.....

and this...

I had even found this fabric that would be the perfect jumping off point.

I was well on my way of having a firm design plan for her room. I was picking a blue paint color for the walls. I showed Tim thinking he would really appreciate a blue bedroom. But much to my dismay he seemed rather disinterested in the color scheme. He said something like "I think her room should be purple."
I let it go and tried again later. Similar reaction..."she's not a boy. why would you give her a blue room?"
Again I let it go....I was trying the wear him down technique. Third times a charm right? Nope. "I thought we were going to paint her room purple?"
I was losing my battle for a blue room.

Meanwhile I was thinking...maybe we could do a purple room. See I kind of have a soft spot for Tim and as the soon to be father of three girls I thought he should have some say in her room. I guess if he thought she should have a purple room I could do that. I love decorating so I should be able to pull this off...right?

The only problem....everytime I thought of purple I thought of this type of purple....

and that was not what I was looking for in a baby's bedroom.

So it was time for a new plan. I needed some inspiration....of course I consulted my favorite place for inspiriation....pinterest.

I found these color schemes..

I even looked for inspiration in everyday items. Like these bottles of body spray.

I was starting to think I could really pull this off....I decided to start by picking fabric for her baby quilt.

While the girls were away I headed out on a fabric hunt. After striking out at both JoAnns and Hobby Lobby I headed to my last hope....the Quilting Connection. I got lucky and walked away with this very happy pile of fabrics.

Once I had a color scheme--light purple, pinkish purple, pinks, and aqua-- things started to come together very quickly.   The next step choosing a paint color was rather simple. I wanted a light pinkish-purpleish kind of liliac-ish color. I picked Santolina Blooms immediately.
I was well on my way with a new design plan. About the same time I started working on Little Sister's room The Handmade Home started posting a series on a Handmade Nursery. This series gave me a lot of inspiration of what I wanted to do in Little Sister's bedroom.

These ideas along with a few great finds on a couple shopping trips really got my creative juices flowing...Little Sister's "purple" bedroom was well on it's way to coming together just perfectly!

Next time I will share with you the finished room. I think it is going to be the perfect space for this sweet little one!

hello meetings at school....not my favorite during summertime. at least it was productive!

hello 38 weeks! i had a doctor's appointment today....i am now 3 cm dilated. a weekend of wedding and dancing and having fun can do that to ya! Little Sister could come along any day now....whenever she decides she is ready we are ready to meet her!

hello no more classes. i am finished with my classes. i had to wait 10 days to take my last exam but i took it this evening and i am officially done! such a great feeling. when i told the girls i was done....ellie said until next summer and i said no, forever!

hello olympics. i have been doing my fair share of tv watching lately and quite frankly was getting a little bored...the olympics came along at the perfect time! i sure am enjoying them and so are the girls. they are however bringing up a lot of questions from ellie about countries and locations and sports and anything else she can think of. lots of questions from that girl!

hello bubble bath. i have been taking baths lately. on saturday cece wandered in and asked if she could wash my hair. of course! it wasn't salon quality but something about those gentle little hands was so relaxing!

hello pickles. we canned pickles on sunday. the girls wanted to can pickles so badly....they might not be any good...but the excitement of process was well worth the work.

hello.....no meal plan. i do not have a meal plan for this week...yet. maybe i will come up with one and maybe we will fly by the seat of our pants and maybe we will just have cereal for dinner:)

The picture is blurring, but these are Cece's "best moves" She actually wanted to clear the entire dance floor so she can do her moves. We are not quite sure where they came from!

For some reason Cece wore the coozies on her hands during the dance....they helped her do her "best moves". She also got into a few boxing matches. Here she is boxing with Brandon.
