so i saw this post on FB.
it is a mom in a bath sipping wine and talking about priorities.
about how there are dishes and laundry to do, but she has priorities. her priority was to take care of herself so she can be a good mom. that it won't matter if the dishes were done or laundry put away but her sanity will matter.
all of this is a very valid point.
however, the video bugged me. and brought up something that has bugged me for many years.
it paints a picture that there is one way to be a good mom.
and there simply is not one way to be a good mom.
some mommas can let the dishes and messes pile up without a care in the world.
some mommas need things clean and orderly in order to enjoy their days.
some mommas (like myself) fall somewhere in the middle.
i can handle a bit of chaos. things don't have to be perfect. but i can't let things get too far out of hand. if i do it is very overwhelming for me. it makes me lose my patience.
keeping things tidy and organized is best for me.
healthiest for me.
it protects my sanity.
helps me be the best mom i can be.
and many years ago during my early mom years...i felt like a bad mom for liking to get the dishes done and toys picked up. so i tried the whole let my house be a disaster thing (some of you might be scratching your head and saying but your house is a disaster...well maybe it is but it is a controlled disaster...) and it just didn't work for me.
and i wondered. what is wrong with me. am i a bad mom.
i quickly realized i had to do things my way.
the thing is my way of doing things might not work for any other mom. but i am not any other mom.
i am me.
it drives me crazy when we act like there is one way to do it right. when really all ways are right.
mommas.
i beg you.
be you.
you know you best.
you know what you need in order to keep your sanity.
you do you.
if staying up an extra 30 minutes to wash your dishes and clean your kitchen is what works for you.
do you.
if letting the dishes pile up in the sink for days is what works for you.
do you.
and don't feel guilty about it. don't feel judged. don't feel like you are doing it wrong.
there is no one way.
be you, momma.
be you.

LOVE this! And I couldn't agree more! Mess = stress and chaos for me! I'd much rather take the time to pick/clean up first, so I can enjoy my family. You be you and I'll be me and we'll all be great! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love this so much!! I remember my house being a bit messy when I was growing up, but my mom still welcomed people into our house. That's because she was doing her. She wasn't turning my friends away because our house was a mess. I get so stuck on no one walking into our house unless it is spotless. We are MESSY! We have a problem with dropping everything and moving on to the next. It is awful and it looks messy, but it doesn't bother me. It bothers me that it would possibly bother OTHER people. Why do I care? If they don't like it they don't need to come over, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome post.
