cece's surgery

cece had her tonsils and adenoids removed on wednesday.

over the past two years or so we had noticed her having trouble being rested, snoring, having stomachaches and throat-aches. it would come and go, but we just never felt like she was never 100%. this spring she tested positive for strep several times and her doctor figured she might have been carrying strep. she also had tonsil stones which are as super gross as they sound. so it was easily decided, out with the tonsils.

she was a bit nervous heading into surgery. surgery went great. doctor said her tonsils were huge. full grown adult huge. yuck.

in recovery she was happy to see us, had quite the upset tummy and had to pee like 6 times. we just kept calling the nurse. finally she settled down and fell asleep. when she woke up she was much better. and ready to go home. we grabbed her an icee on the way home and she was golden.

she was rather sassy when she first got home. both mags and ellie had their tonsils removed when they were 3 so we had a good idea what to expect. but for a 9 year old it is a bit different. she is more able to communicate how she feels and what she needs. she did not like the prescription pain med at all, so that took a little negotiating. but started to recognized that she needed it. we are down to just tylenol now...which makes her happy.

she is doing as expected....a little up and down. day 3 was rough, just like they say. yesterday was good and today has been much better. now they say days 6-10 can be rough again. fingers crossed she breaks the mold there. lots of harry potter watching, food network, and some fuller house. thankful that all we are dealing with is a tonsillectomy. good health and health care is such a blessing, we do not take it for granted.
