shots.

I have wrote about Ellie's issues with shots/medical procedures before.

In the past couple months she has had a couple things come up that could not be avoided.

In May she had to get two teeth pulled.

And today she had to get two booster shots.

Both times she handled it like a champ! This is a real fear for her so we are so proud of her. We did a few things to help her.

1. For several years we tried to avoid these things as much as possible. Like when it was time for flu shots we got in early enough/only went somewhere where the flu mist was available. Our hope was to get past the fear a bit. Luckily she stayed healthy and didn't have any injuiries!

2. We prepared her for the event. We talked about what it would feel like.

3. We discussed ways to cope with the pain...what to do if it hurts....squeeze dads hand. Deep breaths. Focus on a spot on the ceiling.

4. Dad took her to get her teeth pulled and came along for shots. Admittedly he is a better "calmer-downer" than me! Especially with this kind of stuff.

5. We acknowledged that her fear was real and that it would be ok.

6. We applied some stress away oil to her wrists and the back of her neck. :)

7. I prayed!!!!!

I also think it helped that her baby brother was there for shots too :)

We are so proud of her for handling this with grace! It wasn't easy for her but she did it! Way to go jojo!
