ellie's bedroom makeover: LOFT BED!

part two of ellie's bedroom makeover. it probably would be good if i could somehow get these posts up a little closer together. i don't think the time gap is building suspense. :)

anyhow. one of the biggest things that needed to be addressed in ellie's room was the layout. her room is rather spacious, but it is also a little awkward. one wall has a doorway, one wall has a big window, another has her closet and a nook and that leave the fourth big empty wall. so naturally we put her bed along the big empty wall which made it take up much of the floor space. there wasn't much room for her to play anything in her room and the little floor space lead to a rather unorganized and messy room..

plus we have never been able to figure out what to do with her little nook. we tried to put her bed in the nook, but it was just too big to fit the bed frame. so we decided to try just the mattress and it fit just perfectly. and putting her bed there made her room feel so much bigger. there would actually be some floor space.

since her bed frame wouldn't fit we had to come up with something else.

first we thought we could build a platform frame.

then we thought we should build a platform frame with some storage underneath.

then tim was concerned about the cold air return that would be covered up by the bed frame and storage.

then we decided to make the bed a little taller so the cold air return would not be covered.

then i thought well if we are going to make this bed a little taller why not make it a lot taller.

then we thought loft bed.

then we thought we we were crazy to be considering building a loft for a full size bed.

then we decided it would be awesome.

ellie got all into building her new loft. like run the power tools into building the loft. it was so fun to watch.

we cut all the pieces in the garage and assembled what we knew we could get up the stairway.

we finished the assembly in her room. this is the type of furniture that would have to be unassembled to be moved out of her room.

we added some cross pieces for stability and looks:)

 

all put together. looking good. will she like it?

 





of course! they all approve.

we just love how the loft fills that empty hard to fill space. her room is so much more spacious and she has so much more room for activities. :)

i purchased an old library ladder to help miss ellie climb up into her bed. so far maggie hasn't tried to climb up the ladder. yet. there was one moment of regret when ellie thought lucy cat would not be able to get in her bed. this was a sad sad moment since lucy sleeps with ellie every night. no worries...lucy manages to climb into ellies loft every night:)

when we were discussing the whole loft idea, we told ellie that she would have to let her sisters play under the loft. that the bed area her zone but she would have to share the area underneath. she agreed. glad she did because it is a maggie magnet.

 

we still have a few more smaller projects to complete in her room. a few fun things i am excited about. i will share those with you as we get them finished. until then. happy tuesday.
